3-Hab Inc., Cincinnati OH

Dr. David J Greenfield, President

A managed care organization specializing in Worker's Compensation injuries. They accept insurance claims from member providers and pay those providers. They oversee medical treatment with a goal of getting patients back on the job quickly. They are on a TCP/IP network with an application server and a communications server.

Northtec wrote all of their software. This includes the tracking and paying of insurance claims, case management, and extensive EDI data communications with the state, hospitals and doctors. Claims processing and medical case management are integrated. There is a very nice utilization review section section.

Northtec also wrote and implemented a web site, where authorized employers can access our data base to see information about the medical treatment of their injured workers.

Auditors from the state rated our case management software as exceptional. 3-Hab uses the internet to disseminate information to panel providers and employers, as well as for data transfer from the state of Ohio. Post Script: 3-Hab was ranked 2nd in the state of Ohio in case management!

We ported all their applications (medical records, clinical support, payroll, scheduling) from a mini-computer to a Windows NT server based system, running over their huge Class A, TCP/IP network. This is a project that had been attempted twice in the past by other people/companies. (once to a Universe data base and once to a Unidata data base). We started from scratch, and with assistance from UPMC's networking technicians, completed the job in 5 working days. The conversion included writing new graphical programs to represent wave forms on patient medical reports.

We in the processing of moving and integrating the applications listed above with the regular office network (NT servers and workstations). Northtec has placed a proposal to implement a Virtual Private Network over the Internet on the table.

Northtec wrote most of the software used at the central office. This includes claim processing, magnetic tape billing, inventory control, accounts payable for contract providers, and the main office component of most of the various medical programs listed above. Despite the complexity and number of medical programs and clinics, the Family Health Council's technical staff is minimal.

We recently linked a computer used in manufacturing to the main computer. Northtec initially trained their controller on use of the data base tools, and they have been running for over 5 years on this software with virtually no outside support.

Northtec completed software for their manufacturing operations in 1996. It includes job cost accounting and extensive tracking of purchasing and manufacturing inventory.

They have one large facility with 300+ employees which is computerized and sales offices around the world. They have 5 technical people in DP.

Northtec helped them convert from a main frame system to the new computer and software. With their staff programmers, we made extensive modifications to nearly all of the modules including order entry, work order processing, accounts payable, payroll, inventory, and accounts receivable. Northtec wrote an on-line work order - inventory inquiry system which provided a complete and cohesive view into the ordering-manufacturing process. Northtec delivered a set of 7 training sessions to their programmers on application development in Pick. The programmers had already had formal training on Pick BASIC and other technical areas.

In conjunction with Kevas Management Corporation, their management consultants, we designed and implemented an totally new management reporting system, organized around "Strategic Business Units". It allows them to track progress on their business plan, by product line.

In conjunction with medical and technical personnel at Montefiore, Northtec wrote a very flexible medical records system based on an application generator. Their goal was to become virtually paper-less, even on the clinical side. The data collection and reporting for most of their 16 tests is completely computerized, including the storage of wave forms captured from the laboratory equipment. We worked with Calyx Systems who wrote the real time software which samples that equipment. They also use patient scheduling and inter-office communications software written by Northtec.
